Amy Gagnon's Bio
in
her own words . . . .
"I graduated from the
University of Maine in 2007 with a BA in Fine Art and a BS in Landscape
Horticulture. I actually got two full degrees instead of a double major.
I first came to Beaver
Dam Farm the summer of 2005, then came back twice in 2007. As a
horticulturist, I consider myself a "biennial intern."
In the fall of 2006, I
studied drawing, ceramics, and kiln glass for a semester at Sunderland
University, England.
I have worked in many
mediums including; digital art, ceramics, photography, pencil, charcoal,
pastel, watercolor, oil, acrylic and even Rustoleum paint which Carol
provided when she and Arthur commissioned me to do Fjord paintings on
the four doors of the new Carriage House at Beaver Dam Farm.
I was born and raised in
central Maine but have often traveled and lived elsewhere. Because of my
rural upbringing and interest in the environment, I find that
frequently, my artwork is nature based. As a child, my very first
drawing subject was of my cat. I later became interested in horses and
in high school, I began receiving commissions for equine portraits.

Note from Carol
Over the last 25 years that we've hosted international interns at Beaver
Dam Farm, we've met many nice and talented young people. A few of them
have returned for a second, third, and fourth stay with us. Some have
returned after many years to introduce us to their husbands and wives.
--- Some we've lost touch with, but others have been marvelous staying
in touch with Arthur and I. One young man who was with us in 1991, as a
19 yr. old, returned ten years later with his fiancée. Most of the
interns have been smart, well educated, friendly, and personable. Some
have been extremely talented in music and art, and have shared that
talent with us.
Amy Gagnon is
multi-talented, and frankly, we never realized the depth of her talent
until she put together this wonderfully fresh and funny film. It's quite
amazing that Amy's talent extends to film making along with painting,
drawing, and sculpture.
When Amy was with us the
first year, we'd just built a beautiful Carriage House that had four big
doors. We thought how wonderful it would be if someone could paint Fjord
pictures on the doors, and then Amy arrived. -- We commissioned her to
do the artwork. I bought several cans of Rustoleum paint in primary
colors with the thought that it would be most durable, and Amy set to
work doing four scenes representing the four seasons at Beaver Dam Farm.
The result was wonderful. When the doors are open, it looks like we've
got four huge oil paintings hung for an exhibition. All our guests are
astounded, particularly so when we tell them the painting were done by
one of our interns.
During Amy's time with
us, she spent many hours hanging out in the pastures with our horses
taking pictures that she'd later turn into wonderfully personal pencil
drawings commissioned by the owners. You can see two of Amy's Fjord
portraits here. One is of the exquisite 2 yr. old filly, Zinske, owned
by Sheila Tweedie of Far Hills, New Jersey. -- The other drawing is of
the beautiful imported German mare, Jazzy, owned by Janie Sommer of St.
Louis, MO.
Amy is an accomplished
artist as you can see on her website, but she is still a young emerging
artist. -- This is a grand opportunity for those of you who appreciate
art and would like to have a quality drawing of your horse. Contact Amy.
Her prices are (I think) ridiculously low, so this is a grand
opportunity to own a beautiful drawing of your horse before Amy becomes
really well-known.
