BREEDING &
Beaver Dam Farm‘s stallion GJEST

The experts speak about BDF’s stallion,
GJEST . . . .
GJEST - “It’s remarkable that
stallions like Helgas-Jarl and his son, GJEST, have had such a good
influence on the performance of their offspring. Their positive influence
shows itself mainly in the character of their get. Besides that, these
stallions produce Fjords with much body and considerable height.”
- B. J. van Bon, Chief Inspector of Fjords for Holland
GJEST - “This stallion, GJEST, is so good that we hope he is much used for
breeding In your country.”
- David Klove, longtime judge for the Norges
Fjordhestlag
(The official Registry/Studbook of Norway)
GJEST - “Madame Rivoire, my
compliments! Your stallion, GJEST, has excellent movement. If I were to
judge him, I’d give him the highest marks.”
- Dr. H.L.M. van Schaik, Dresage Judge, instructor,
and author of dressage books
GJEST - “There’s no question
in my mind that GJEST has the ability to go to the upper levels in riding
and driving. He has tremendous power, and superb suspension. He’s also very
attentive. He has a natural impulsion and forwardness which make it easy for
him to do the job. It’s a real gift that not many horses have.”
- Lawrence Poulin, 3 time U.S. Pair Champion,
international competitor & Combined Driver of the Year
GJEST - “Ive been a stallion handler for the Staemboek for many years, and
never had such a good one as GJEST. He has a wonderful attitude --- very
willing and loves to work.”
- Professional stallion handler for the Dutch Studbook
GJEST - “You could look for a
lifetime and not find a stallion that moves like Gjest”
- B. J. van Bon, Chief Inspector of Fjords for Holland
GJEST - “I can really see the
GJEST in his offspring. They have a wonderful work ethic that other Fjords
don’t have. It makes a tremendous difference when you really need that
endurance and heart to get the job done. Good breeding is everything and
makes all the difference in the world.”
- Michael Scott, Driving competitor, trainer, and
instructor, and many times Grand Champion at prestigious Midwest driving
shows.

SALES
Beaver Dam Farm is
famous for matching horses and owners.
Here are a few comments from buyers of Fjords from Beaver Dam Farm.
“We give full credit to Beaver Dam Farm who did not merely sell us a Fjord,
but found the Fjord that was indeed perfect for us. -- I don’t know if I
will ever be able to thank you enough for the pleasure, joy, and performance
our Sunflower has given us!”
- Cheryl Skigin - Orange, CA
“Dear Carol and Arthur . . . Wanted to
give you a progress report on Tialda . . . Living up to her nick name -
Golden Girl! -- I took her in dressage schooling shows the last two
Saturdays. We did Intro A & Intro B. She got 8s on all collectives,
including 9s from one judge, and got the two highest scores of the whole
show. The second show, she was again high scorer of the show.
I continue to find her more fun to work with than any of my other horses.
Think it must be that engaging personality where she is so totally tuned in
to me! And always give me 100%.”
- Carol Taylor - Oregon
“Dear Carol, -- I have been looking through your book again and noticed your
chapter “Solid Value”. That’s right on when describing Fjords. I know I
shall continue to have fun with both my new girls. Thanks for all your help
and also to your staff for their training.”
- Jean and John Trend, Newfoundland
“Hi Carol -- Well, at the end of my first week riding King I think that the
only word to describe him is “awesome”. I’ve had several quiet rides on him
. . . My vet was very impressed with his looks and manners . . . She had
been a bit worried about my buying a horse that I had no seen, but allowed
that ‘you did good’!!!! ---- This morning I took him to the riding ring next
door. Well, there were strange horses, delivery trucks and rambunctious
dogs, and he just ‘dropped into my hands’ and showed what he could do ---
two of the boarders asked for your website. --- So, many thanks to all who
worked with him to get him to this stage in his life. . . He will stay with
our family till the end of his days and will probably convince a lot of
folks in our neighborhood to look at Fjords!”
- Sheila Tweedie, Far Hills, NJ
“Hi Carol and Arthur . . . Just returned from the Morgan Show this weekend
with the open carriage classes. Michael and BDF Miss Naveta won the driving
Grand Championship the past two years. Today we brought home the Reserve
Grand Championship with BDF Kapprell!!! He was just great at the show --
what a fine horse he is. Michael has only been working him 3 months. -- Just
wanted to let you know you have another wonderful pony to be proud of.”
- Michael & Betsy Scott, Minneapolis, MN

THE FJORD HORSE HANDBOOK
by Carol Rivoire
300 pages, 175 photos - $36.95 U.S. - VISA
or check Available from Beaver Dam Farm.
“Carol Rivoire has written a love story . . .Her enthusiasm, knowledge, and
joie de vivre permeate the book. If you haven’t met Carol you will want to
after reading this book. If you have met her you will hear her voice as she
describes these horses that she adores. -- She has written a book to help
the Fjordhorse and his/her owner. It is very practical, with chapters on
“Fencing for Fjords” and “Cutting the Mane”, and encourages thoughtful,
consistent training throughout. It is also most fanciful with photographs
which will make you want to own a Fjord so you can hug it daily, and a
chapter on taking the Fjords to the Beach which will make you want to go to
Nova Scotia today. . . .Carol has written a delightful book . . . . Brew up
some tea, get comfortable, and enjoy this book. It’s a treat.”
- Sheila Libby Alexander, American Driving Society
judge, Professional librarian
“This is a delightful and most informative book on the Fjord horse . . . It
is entertaining and at the same time very insightful and reflects the
profound experience and knowledge of the author on this subject. I enjoyed
especially the deep consideration and regard given to the understanding,
well-being, and proper treatment of the animal. I feel that this book is a
very necessary and important contribution to the breed. Every current or
prospective Fjord owner should have a copy in their library.” . . .
- Heike Bean, Licensed by the FN of Germany,
driving judge, Trainer, instructor, clinician, and co-author of the book Carriage Driving.
A Logical Approach through Dressage Training.
“Carol Rivoire’s THE FJORDHORSE HANDBOOK
is, quite simply, a wonderful compendium. Part essential information, part
practical advice, part history, part experience, it is everywhere imbued
with a love, respect, and intimate knowledge of the ancient Norwegian Fjord.
While grounded in her own vast research and
experience, the author also draws on the knowledge and expertise of other
authorities to create a balanced and comprehensive manual on the breed’s
standards, conformation, and uses. The anecdotal style is highly readable.
Essential information is well organized and easily accessible. All the basic
ingredients are here, from cutting the Fjord’s unique mane, to assessing
breeding stock, to feeding them properly. You can even follow the breed’s
development, or shake your head over the author’s experiences on buying
trips to Europe. There are large numbers of good photos to illustrate the
text.
If you breed, own, or aspire
to having a Fjord, THE FJORDHORSE HANDBOOK is essential. If you are a lover
of all the Native breeds of ponies (or short horses) of Northern Europe,
Scandinavia, and the British Isles, you’ll find much here to delight and
provoke further thought. It’s an excellent addition to the body of knowledge
on these wonderful animals and all they have to offer in the pantheon of
respected companion, competitive athletes, and genetic treasures.”
- Caroline Nesbitt, author of THE PONY BREEDER’S
COMPANION
