We will
exceed your expectations!
Carol, thank you for all
the tremendously hard work you have done for us in selling the horses to
great homes and at prices exceeding our expectations. I really admire your
work in promoting the breed, and finding each horse the right buyer. -- You
have been a wonderful help to us over the past couple of years, finding
ideal placements for 8 of our Fjordhorses! Thank you does not even begin to
express our appreciation."
- Linda Voerhoeve Fjords
of Narnia, British Columbia
This owner sent us eight consignment horses over a three year period. The
owner felt so strongly about our ability to market her horses that she sent
these eight horses across the whole continent to Beaver Dam Farm. From
British Columbia to Nova Scotia.
For
twenty-five years, Beaver Dam Farm has accepted high quality Fjords to sell
under our name.(consignment
sale) Our standards
are very high, but since we’re dealing with an animal and not something made
out of nuts and bolts where you can measure tolerances, etc., we know there
are considerations in evaluating a horse. It’s not all “the exterior” of a
horse as the Europeans say. -- A wonderful horse can be less than gorgeous,
but can rate a “10” in areas such as performance, endurance, reliability,
intelligence, willingness, safety. -- We will not accept a horse with health
problems or major, long-standing behavior problems. -- Small things we can
correct quickly. -- Major behavior problems take a long time to correct, and
in many cases can’t be fixed.
When we agree to take a horse on consignment, our responsibility is to
both the horse’s owner (seller) and the eventual buyer. -- We also have a
responsibility to the horse to place him with suitable owners. We work hard
for all 3 parties. The horses we get on consignment sale are very good
horses. Horses that have been loved and well-cared for. The owner might have
to sell his horse, but he cares very much that his old friend goes to a
suitable home. -- If the horse is with the wrong person, then nobody is
happy. -- We’re not happy, the horse is unhappy, and both the new and old
owners are unhappy.
TO THE SELLER
We
pledge to put your horse in top condition and training. Your horse will be
trained six days a week. Often, more than once a day. Training consists of
riding and/or driving training in the ring and on the trail. All training is
based on classic dressage principles (The German Training Scale). Ring work
is interspersed with cross country trail riding and driving.
Your horse will
be thoroughly groomed at least once per day. He’ll be clipped when
necessary, and his distinctive Fjordhorse mane will be kept properly cut. In
other words, your horse will always be ready to “show himself” to an
interested buyer.
Your horse will
live in Horse Heaven . . . . When not working, he’ll live in huge pastures,
and be turned out with small groups of agreeable horses. All pastures have
run-in sheds or trees for shelter. All pastures have 24/7 water – checked,
cleaned, & filled daily.
We pledge to use
all our resources to find your horse a suitable new owner. Beaver Dam Farm’s
resources are extensive - We advertise all over North America in riding and
driving publications. Our popular website is professionally managed, and
always near the top of Search Engines. Sale horses get excellent coverage on
the website, and we have a high visibility page called Feature of the Week.
Our Nova Scotia Riding & Driving guests often come to Beaver Dam Farm to
purchase a horse. -- Beaver Dam Farm has a huge client list of proven buyers
and prospective buyers.
Prospective
buyers who come to Beaver Dam Farm know our reputation. They know the
quality of horses we sell. They know we’ve been in business since 1979, and
our First Class Reputation has been built on honesty, dedication, and hard
work. We’re most famous for our ability to match horses and people.
Interested buyers have heard of Beaver Dam Farm. They know our reputation
for quality and good training. Most of these people have done their
homework, and they realize that high quality horses without problems, and
with good training do not come cheap.

TO THE BUYER
We pledge to do
everything possible to find you a suitable horse. -- The fact that we only
take high quality horses on consignment is very much to your advantage. It
means that we have a much larger choice of horses, from which to choose one
for you. -- A horse that will be suitable for you. -- We are not limited to
only the horses owned by us.
We usually have
about 25 Fjords on the farm owned by Beaver Dam Farm. This number includes
our stallion, our senior citizens, our broodmares, and youngsters of various
ages. -- Once in a while, we’ll have an adult horse to offer for sale. --
More often, we’ll have an excellent choice of consignment horses, every one
of which has been personally chosen by Carol and Jaimie. -- As we said above
. . . We are exceedingly careful about the horses we accept on consignment.
Although we’re
often asked, we consistently refuse to represent any horse that isn’t sent
to our farm. We refuse these “deals” because we can’t in good conscience
sell a horse that we don’t know personally, and the only way to really know
him is to have him here, and to live with him and work with him. We need to
spend time with the horse, work with him, and assess his character,
abilities, and training. There is no other way to do this except to have the
horse on the farm, and spend the necessary time to get to know him
completely. --- There are people on the Internet who broker horses. -- To
us, it’s dangerous, and the height of foolhardiness to buy a horse off the
Internet from a broker. -- Please think about this -- The broker doesn’t
know this horse at all. He’s simply passing on information given to him by
the owner who wishes to sell that horse.
We know our
horses!
And in order to match up our horses to buyers, we need to know you. In fact,
the more information you can give us, the better job we’ll be able to do for
you. We want to know . . . . .
your age?, . . . your size? .
. . your horse experience?. . . familiar with Fjord breed? . . . your
ambition? . . . your priorities? . . . marital status?. . . . children? . .
. . what ages are they? . . . . Do you ride/drive? . . . .
And anything and
everything else you can think of that would help us to suggest a suitable
horse for your particular situation.

help to us over the past couple of years, finding ideal placements for 8 of
our Fjord horses!! Thank-you does not even begin to express our
